In many Ethiopian homes, the coffee ceremony is a moment for hospitality, conversation and connection. The fragrance of incense often joins freshly roasted coffee, bringing another beautiful element of Ethiopian tradition to the gathering.
Frankincense, known in Amharic as etan (እጣን), is an aromatic resin from Boswellia trees. Resin hardens into small pieces often called tears. When gently heated, it releases a distinctive fragrance.
In Ethiopia, incense is used in different cultural and religious settings, including traditional coffee gatherings, prayer and special occasions. Its importance is part of the story behind the cup.
Discover Ethio Meaza Incense ↓Explore its cultural story ↗Ethiopia is home to several Boswellia species whose aromatic resins have long been gathered and traded.
The scent of incense can accompany the jebena and freshly roasted coffee, inviting guests to pause and connect.
Behind traditional Ethiopian products are the knowledge, skill and livelihoods of the communities who gather and prepare them.
Taste of Ethiopian Coffee celebrates not only what is in the cup, but also the traditions, makers and stories surrounding it.
Taste of Ethiopian Coffee was imagined as a cultural bridge: a place to honor coffee's origins, celebrate Ethiopian hospitality and share the stories behind every cup.
We are building a platform where diaspora communities, neighbors, coffee lovers and entrepreneurs can learn, connect and grow together — with the ambition of returning year after year.
